Acres Homes plans centennial celebration

The Acres Homes Beautification and Restoration Committee has announced its plans to help coordinate the 100 year anniversary celebration of the founding of the Acres Homes community. Acres Homes is a subdivision located northwest of downtown, between I-45 and West T.C. Jester. The Committee will be joined by various civic clubs in the area to plan for the celebration, which will include a parade through the Acres Homes neighborhood. Various committees are being formed and volunteers are needed for cleanup, decorating, landscaping and event projects.

The celebration date has not been finalized, but is scheduled for the fall. Acres Homes was developed by the Wright Land Co., as was Independence Heights, in 1910. The Texas Historical Commission has placed a marker in the neighborhood designating it a historically significant site.
